- Dr. Amanda
Promise Physical Therapy & Wellness helps people get active by reducing pain and improving mobility to allow them to do the things they are passionate about and eliminate the need for injections, surgeries and medications.
At 2:45 am November 26 of 2021, frustrated with my current and past work experiences, I began writing a list of things I wanted out of my practice. I realized my list (below) sounded like promises to my patients! That is how the name of my practice, Promise Physical Therapy & Wellness, was created.
Amanda's Promise to her patients:
* I will actively listen to your needs to determine how to best serve you or your loved one with compassion and respect.
* I will empower you with knowledge about your deficits and strategies to perform self-treatment and management.
* I will provide one-on-one care.
* I will provide patient-centered care and collaborate on a care plan based on your needs, availability and means.
* I will continue to learn and evolve my practice to best serve the community.
* I will devote my time during the session and after to determine the most efficient way to help avoid or reduce the need for pain medication, injections and surgery.
* I will be transparent.
* If I know I am not the best fit to serve you or your loved one, I will refer to the appropriate provider.
Now I have been able to grow my practice and welcome another Doctor of Physical Therapy along for the adventure who I know also upholds my same values and Promises with our patients - Dr. Emily!
I am Amanda, Doctor of Physical Therapy and founder/owner of Promise Physical Therapy & Wellness, LLC.
I am originally from Lake Mills, Wisconsin. I enjoyed playing volleyball, basketball and soccer growing up. With thanks to my parents and my aunt's passion for horses, I was also fortunate to be able to grow up horseback riding.
My interest in becoming a physical therapist began after sustaining multiple injuries as a young athlete and having to experience therapy myself. I wanted to get into a profession where I could spend more than 5-10 minutes with someone and truly make a difference in their lives.
I chose to go to Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin, to be part of their direct admission program for their DPT program and be able to continue my passion for playing volleyball. My coach encouraged us to participate in track to stay in shape for volleyball. I wanted to earn a starting spot in volleyball so I reached out to the head track and field coach. He got a good kick out of my interest in sprinting and redirected me toward throwing javelin, figuring they are similar mechanics (later I would learn in ortho the mechanics are not so similar when an assignment we did broke it down!). Nonetheless, this decision lead to earning All-American title that first year and NCAA Division III National Champion the year after with a distance of 150 feet and 3.9 inches. I qualified my junior year but unfortunately sustained a partial tear of my right ulnar collateral ligament. The surgeon said my chance of being able to throw at the same caliber was the same with or without the Tommy John Surgery so I chose to rehab myself. I took second at nationals my senior year. Just as I didn't give up on my goals, I won't give up helping you achieve yours.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, Minor in Psychology in 2012 and Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2014 at Carroll. I have been in practice as a physical therapist since September of 2014. I began my career as a travel physical therapist exploring new parts of Wisconsin for nearly 2 years and spent 1.5 years in Virginia. During a travel contract in Antigo, Wisconsin (my last 6 months of travel PT at Aspirus Langlade Hospital), I met my boyfriend Brian and decided to settle down in Antigo permanently. I loved the people and sense of community. I worked in home health for 5 years in the Antigo area.
In December of 2021, I created Promise Physical Therapy & Wellness, LLC, to no longer have to follow strict rules from insurance companies or be the source of sadness related to reporting insurance company limitations and denials for PT services. My goal is to serve YOU, the patient, not an insurance company.
Brian and I built a home together and have two fur children, Baloo (black lab), Goose (cat) and one not-so-furry child, Jengo (crested gecko).
I enjoy traveling, hiking, paddle boarding, kayaking, hunting and spending time with family and friends.
I would consider myself a "general" therapist. I enjoy working with a variety of patients from geriatric to athletes looking to enhance their athletic performance. I am passionate about my career and genuinely enjoy interacting with people and learning their stories.
I was born and raised in Antigo and married another Antigo native, Josh. I graduated from Antigo High School in 2008 and graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a Bachelors in Kinesiology, with a Human-Performance Emphasis. Kinesiology is the study of Human Movement – I didn’t know what it was either until I went for orientation, told them I wanted to be a Physical Therapist, and they said “Great, here is your major!” I continued on to get my Doctorate in Physical Therapy at UW-La Crosse and graduated in 2015. I returned to Antigo and immediately landed a job at Aspirus Langlade Hospital (ALH).
I worked at ALH, primarily in outpatient and also completing the aquatic therapy for nearly 9 years. In that time I met Amanda when she came as a traveler, and we have been friends since! From volleyball teams to traveling the world, to her somehow talking me in to running a Half-Marathon we have had some good times together! Then the amazing opportunity to join Amanda’s team came about and there was no way I could pass it up. I started with Amanda at the end of January in 2024 and honestly have never been happier in my career!
I have been very blessed having a lot of family in town to help support and care for our family as it grows. We have two little boys, Jackson and Cooper, and it is up in the air who is the bigger trouble maker. Our home is full of wonderful chaos; Life is busy but so much fun! I enjoy kayaking, traveling, reading when I get a chance, playing volleyball and I am a sub for my sister’s bowling team. But mostly I am a busy Mama taking care of very busy boys.
I have worked with a wide variety of patients including cervicogenic headaches/migraines, orthopedic injuries, chronic pain and aquatic therapy. I love working with the senior population and folks with neurological conditions. I am certified in the LSVT -BIG program, an exercise program specific for Parkinson’s Disease, and have just finished my Coaching certification for Rock Steady Boxing. I enjoy focusing on overall function, mobility, balance and getting people moving for a better quality of life and decreased fear of falling. I recently completed some training in Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMJ pain) and am looking forward to working with this population. I can’t wait to work with you and get you back to doing what you love!
